Multi-Misson Modular Technology
The power to transform is the future.
A number of industrial robotics manufacturers make claims about ‘modular’ systems; what they are really referring to is more accurately termed ‘configurability’ — a critical distinction. Configurable designs involve a basic vehicle with several payload options (a camera swapped out for a probe, etc.), much like a tractor hauling different trailers. But what Inuktun offers are truly modular systems and components that adhere to our Multi-Mission Modular (IM3) philosophy.

OnSite Standard Products. But these same modules can also be used with almost any other tool or sensor; the possibilities are endless!

But here’s the problem: even the best-equipped divers are only human. They can’t work around the clock, in strong currents or during rough weather—and special training is needed to ensure inspections are performed accurately.
So what’s the solution? Inuktun and Cygnus have partnered to produce a miniature magnetic crawler system that offers visual and UT inspection capability, both above and below the waterline.
Integrating an ultrasonic probe with a robot requires careful consideration; motor or electrical noise can affect the thickness readings, and movement needs to be smooth, reliable and repeatable. After evaluating the standard product line and the Cygnus system, our engineers decided that the MaggUT™–Marine was an ideal fit. Small, durable and proven, it can be operated in almost all ocean and weather conditions, and it already includes a camera for Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) applications. And, just like the rest of the Inuktun product line, it has been designed using our Multi-Mission Modular (IM3) technology, allowing engineers to easily add or change components, depending on specific mission requirements.
The new MaggUT™–Marine magnetic crawler system supports a variety of camera and UT probe options (including all the features of the Cygnus thickness gauge), and the fully integrated controller saves the sensor readings for simple reporting or on-screen display.

The ACFM® MagCrawler: ‘Weld’ Done!
TSC puts Inuktun’s IM3 technology to the test with a new magnetic crawler solution for remote subsea inspection…
Following the success of a recent diverless ACFM® inspection campaign in the Norwegian-sector North Sea, TSC has partnered with Inuktun Services Ltd. to pioneer an innovative development in the arena of subsea inspection—the ACFM MagCrawler™.
TSC’s ACFM® inspection method is already widely used for diver-deployed subsea weld inspection. Now, this specialized solution allows for accurate inspection of subsea welds where access can be difficult or costly to reach with divers. Advanced control software enables the ACFM MagCrawler™ to track a wide range of weld geometries typically found on fixed and floating structures.
The ACFM MagCrawler™ is magnetically attached to the inspection surface. Two Inuktun Microtracs™ provide the traction and allow accurate steering of the ACFM MagCrawler™ across the surface. When deployed by ROV, the ACFM MagCrawler™ is delivered to the structure and operates autonomously with the ROV stood off. This minimizes the station-keeping requirements of the ROV.
The ACFM MagCrawler™ can maneuver easily on flat surfaces or tubulars with a diameter greater than 30 inches (760mm). Motorized adjustments of probe position can be made in both parallel and transverse directions, allowing full coverage of the area to be inspected. The probe is held in contact with the inspection surface using passive compliance, to ensure correct alignment at all times. A 360° rotation head means flange welds can be inspected with full coverage of the weld and heat affected zone.
The combination of TSC’s ACFM® inspection technology with the ACFM MagCrawler™ deployment can deliver particularly high inspection performance with a capability to detect and size defects as small as 15mm long by 1mm deep in welded connections, even when inspected through a protective coating.
